Former British Columbia Fruit Growers president passed away

Vernon's Jeet Dukhia, former BC Fruit Growers Association (BCFGA) president and Chairman of the Board of BC Tree Fruits, passed Wednesday at the age of 74. He died from complications of terminal lung cancer.

Dukhia began farming in the BC area in 1977, growing cherries as well as Gala, Ambrosia, Fuji, and Honeycrisp apples on the family farm. While farming, Dukhia also worked as chief engineer at Vernon’s hospital for more than 30 years.

Dukhia was elected BCFGA president in 2013 and again in 2021. He was the first Vernon president of the organization.

Date and time arrangements are still being made for a public funeral.
