Rene Bouman, FMI:

"Challenging lime market"

In Europe, lime market prices were high for a while, but those have since slumped. "The new harvest's in full swing in Brazil, so there's more volume again, especially of small sizes," says the Dutch company FMI's Rene Bouman.

"Other production countries like Colombia, Mexico, Vietnam, and Peru are sending limes to Europe, too, hoping for high market prices. So, there's presently far too much supply."

"Consumption is sluggish at this time of year anyway, which creates pressure on the market. That won't lessen either if import volumes don't decrease dramatically," Rene concludes.
