Governor Lacson wants more storage facilities for onions

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson plans to establish storage facilities for onions, as the costs of these products are soaring. Lacson also advised onion farmers in the province to control their production as the country continues to experience shortages.

Lacson said they are considering building storage facilities, although for now onion farmers should figure out exactly how many onions they should plant so as not to cause overproduction when harvest season comes. He also pointed out that the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) has available programs that can be utilized by the local onion farmers.

The governor is also seeking consultations with farmer associations and cooperatives in Negros Occidental. Lacson said he wants to know what is their position as well as the commitment they could give if ever the province decides to construct storage facilities.
