Increased demand in Europe, America and parts of South America

Garlic demand higher than expected in October

In October 2022, China's total garlic exports were 218,000 tons, of which fresh or refrigerated garlic was about 191,800 tons, a year-on-year increase of about 7.82% compared with the export volume of 177,900 tons in the same period last year. The total export value was 153,714,300. Compared with the export value of US$186,009,800 in the same period last year, it fell by about 17.36% year-on-year.

Regarding countries of destination, in October 2022, the top ten countries/regions for China's fresh or chilled garlic exports included Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Russian, and Colombia.

Garlic exports in October achieved outstanding results, with countries in Southeast Asia, South America, and other regions contributing significantly. For example, in Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, etc., the demand increased by 40%-170% compared with the same period last year. In Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in West Asia, the demand increased by 30%-40% compared with the same period last year. Brazil and Colombia in South America, the United States, the Netherlands, and Canada have also seen a significant increase in demand.

The demand for garlic is higher than expected. On the one hand, due to the low price advantage in October, the previous backlog of orders has been consumed. On the other, some merchants are worried about the shipping schedule and plan to stock up in advance, which increases the demand in Europe, America, and some South American regions.
