Lucien de Wit, LuBa Fresh:

"Effect of lower Dutch strawberry supply is being felt; Egyptian ones in greater demand as that season starts"

The new Egyptian strawberry season started at LuBa Fresh last week. "We receive shipments three times a week, exclusively by air," says this Dutch company's Lucien de Wit. "The pandemic made that tough last year. The high air freight rates from Egypt will make this year challenging too."

Yesterday's arrival

"We're currently getting the Fortuna and Sensation varieties. They're of excellent quality, and there's good demand for Egyptian strawberries. It's better even than at the start of last season, seemingly because of the lower Dutch strawberry supply," Lucien concludes. Depending on how market prices develop, LuBa Fresh will get strawberries from Egypt until early January.
