Austrian potato variety trials successful

Austria held potato variety trials on 16 cultivars at four different locations, some of which were under severe drought during the year.

The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety together with a potato breeding company held the trials during 2022, which they termed a success.

Some of the potatoes were tested under partial organic conditions, while others were irrigated and some of the test plots not irrigated, which is more closer to real Austrian growing conditions. The aim is to test the 16 varieties for their potential stress tolerance. The trials will be repeated next year to validate this year's results.
