The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Marcos Montes, participated this Wednesday in the Agriculture and Climate panel, during the interactive program of the Brazilian pavilion at the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27). The space is a partnership between the Ministry of the Environment, Apex-Brasil, the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
Marcos Montes highlighted that the issue of food production will play a leading role in the discussions at COP27. “This COP is an important stage for us to show this unity of environmental preservation with the production that exists in Brazil. Preserving the environment is, of course, in the interest of the whole world, it is the future of our children. Now, the world needs to feed itself, we need to produce. So, we have to have this equation fully resolved so that we can continue to preserve and produce food”, said the minister, recalling that in 40 years Brazil has gone from being an importer of food to one of the largest exporters in the world, with the strictest legislation in the world. world in terms of environmental conservation.
The Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite, said that Brazil is an internationally recognized food power and has a lot to show at COP27. “We have a sustainable and the most regenerative agriculture in the world, due to a characteristic of our tropical agriculture, which preserves the soil and at the same time takes care of the forests, the soil and the springs,” he said.
