Uruguay authorizes Peru to export Capsicum peppers to its market

Peru's Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) reported that Uruguay's General Directorate of Agricultural Services of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (MGAP) had authorized Peru to export Capsicum peppers to that country.

The MIDAGRI also stated that Peru has more than 350 registered varieties of chilies, peppers, and rocotos that it cultivates throughout the country's 24 regions. The most used varieties are the yellow, Panca, Limo, Charapita, MontaƱa, and Rocoto peppers, among others.

"There are about 11,000 agricultural producers dedicated to the cultivation of chilies, peppers, and rocotos. Family farmers preserve this heritage, which is essential to make most of the emblematic dishes of Peruvian gastronomy," Midagri stated.

Peru is a producer and exporter of Capsicum products, such as dried paprika and various pepper varieties.
