New opportunities for Italy as a strategic hub

A three-year agreement between Macfrut and Expolink, the association of fresh produce exporters of Egypt, was signed in Cairo. The agreement concerns the insertion of Macfrut among the fairs of reference for the association and the participation of 15 Egyptian exporters in the next edition of Macfrut, to be held at the Rimini Expo Centre on May 3-5, 2023.

"It is an important recognition for Macfrut from a leading protagonist in the sector, which identified our event as a 'tool' for new commercial relations. The Russian conflict is modifying the international arena and our country, through the ports located on the North Adriatic sea (Ravenna, Venice and Trieste), can play an important role acting as a hub for Egyptian exports headed to southern and eastern Europe," explained Renzo Piraccini, President of the Italian fair.

Egypt is a leading international player: during the last campaign, it exported approximately 5 million tons of produce, with Russia being one of its markets of reference. The new international scenario that sees Russia going through an economic crisis with expected drops in consumption means Egypt is looking for alternative markets.

Expolink President Mostafa El Naggari and Macfrut President Renzo Piraccini signed the agreement.
