22,000 new banana seedlings planted in Israel's Ein Gev kibbutz

The team of the Kibbutz Ein Gev, close to the Sea of Galilee in Israel, planted 22,000 new banana seedlings of the Grand-Nan Adi variety. Every year, two plantings are carried out, one in spring and the other in late summer.

The team was joined by students and young people who finished their time in the army, from the "Israeli Harvest" program who come for two months, live in the Golan, and help in agriculture.

Israel is one of the world's pioneers in the cultivation and propagation of banana seedlings and is considered a major exporter of banana seedlings to plantations around the world. The seedlings are disease-resistant and make Israel one of the most important suppliers of banana seedlings to the whole world.

Most of the Israeli banana plantations are located in the Jordan Valley and the Carmel coast, but now new growing areas have joined in the Beit Shan area. Today over 32 thousand dunams of bananas are grown, yielding about 200 thousand tons a year. In commercial orchards, it is customary to pick the fruit while it is still green, and pack it in packing houses throughout the country. Kibbutz Ein Gav has its own packaging house.
