Fairtrade banana company ready to talk US expansion

To support its U.S. market expansion, Equifruit will exhibit at the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show in Orlando from October 27-29 at booth 4579. As a first-time exhibitor, it aims to showcase its innovative approach to branding Fairtrade-certified bananas.

Equifruit is a Fairtrade-certified banana supplier based in Canada. It has successfully challenged retailers first to rethink their banana strategy and then partner with Equifruit to introduce a responsibly sourced product that attracts a new generation of consumers. Equifruit sources from a mix of small producers and plantations in Peru, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico and Colombia.

“By changing the narrative on bananas, our retail partners have earned the respect of their customers, despite the higher price-point – and they’ve seen growth not just in sales but tonnage too,” says Kim Chackal, director of sales & marketing at Equifruit. “We know there is an appetite for supporting brands that are doing business right and everyone can get behind paying farmers fairly. We’re eager to get our beloved bananas into the hands of American consumers.”

Visitors to Equifruit’s booth can expect to meet the company’s president and owner, Jennie Coleman; its director of operations Ben Huyghe; senior manager, impact & innovation Michelle Gubbels; and director of sales & marketing Kim Chackal. They will be sporting matching #BananaBadass jumpsuits in a colorful booth that also houses a six-foot shark. Prepare to meet a team that has a refreshing and unique approach on how to market a purpose-driven brand.

“We want to be impossible to ignore,” says Chackal. “Our unique booth is just a hint of the creativity we put into getting people behind our mission: global Fairtrade banana domination!”
