Grape production in the Cerrado Brasiliense, outside the cooler climate area, has its advantages and disadvantages. According to the agronomist and coordinator of Fruticulture of the Technical Assistance and Rural Production Company (Emater-DF), Felipe Camargo, the winter in the Federal District has climatic conditions that allow an excellent production of the fruit.
The fruit, characteristic of a temperate climate, has great potential for development in the Federal District, despite the region's hot and dry climate. In addition to the commercial appeal, it can be explored with a focus on wine tourism or rural tourism.
There are currently 40 grape growers spread across the district and more than 74,000 hectares are planted with the fruit. This means a 100% increase in the number of producers and a 60% increase in the size of the cultivated area in the last four years. Most of the planting in the Federal District is for the production of table grapes.
