Rio Grande do Norte receives authorization to export bananas to Egypt

Last week, the state of Rio Grande do Norte received authorization from Egypt to export bananas there. Documents to that effect, issued by the Arab Republic of Egypt, were sent to the state's Agricultural Defense and Inspection Institute (Idiarn). In August, Idiarn and the Ministry of Agriculture participated in a technical audit together with a team from Egypt in the municipalities of Assú and Ipanguaçu, which are banana producers.

In these places, the cultivation conditions and possible occurrence of quarantine pests called Panama disease and Black Sigatoka, which are not present in the state, were verified. During the inspection, the Egyptian technical team also analyzed the processing of planting, harvesting and fruit processing and packaging, after which they established the requirements for import.

“The agreement between Brazil and Egypt has already been made official. The start of exports now depends only on commercial agreements between the companies. Our part has been done and very soon we will see the first load of bananas being sent to African territories”, considered the director general of Idiarn, Mário Manso.

Rio Grande do Norte already has agreements for the export of other fruits signed with the European Union, China, Chile, the United States, Argentina, Holland, Portugal, Dubai, among others. The state is the largest national exporter of fresh fruits, such as melons. The product is one of the main items exported by the state annually.
