Spain presents plans to hire over 16,000 agri workers from Morocco

Spain’s Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, through the Secretary of State for Migration, has launched a new stage in the migration program of Collective Management of Hiring at Origin (GECCO). This means that more than 16,000 citizens from Morocco will be eligible to travel to Spain in order to work in different agricultural sectors of the EU nation.

The new edition comes following the agreement at the Coordination Meeting of the Circular Migration Agreement between authorities of Spain and Morocco, which was recently held in Tangier, as well as business organizations Asaja, Freshuelva, Upa, Andalusian Federation of Cooperatives, Association of Citrus Growers (APH) and Fresón de Palos, reports.

The largest contingent of this campaign will be made up of 15,350 people who can be hired at origin and who will carry out agricultural work, mainly strawberry harvesting, in the province of Huelva. This figure represents an increase of 5,000 more people than initially expected, almost recovering the figures before the pandemic.
