Guangzhou Fruit Wholesale Market Report - Week 39

Vietnamese durian sales are ideal, but product movement of Australian oranges slowed down

The seven day holiday for National Day began on Saturday the 1st of October. However, National Day is not a holiday that involves gift giving, so the impact on fruit sales is limited. Only a few traders said that they have seen sales increase.

Vietnamese durian entered the Chinese market last week, but their delivery volume is still small and only a few traders sell Vietnamese durian. The price is more or less the same as last week, and the difference with the price of Thai durian is minimal. Some traders say that the price of Vietnamese durian temporarily soared, but quickly came down again. Product movement is smooth.

Thai longan entered the Chinese market last month. The product movement around Mid-Autumn Festival [10 September, 2022] was great, but in the last two weeks the price dropped by around 15% and the sales volume declined.

The delivery volume of Peruvian blueberries is growing, and so is the number of traders who sell them. That is why the price recently declined. The price of a popular brand of blueberries, which most traders sell, declined by 20%-30%. In addition, sweet blueberries are more expensive than sour blueberries.

Yunnan avocados

The price of Peruvian avocados showed a downward trend last week, and this week the price fell even further. This came after a price rise in the first few weeks of the season. The delivery volume of Yunnan avocados is growing. Their price is more or less the same as last week, and only slightly lower than the price of Peruvian avocados.

Australian oranges

The market conditions for Australian oranges were far from ideal in the last few weeks. The current price of some brands dropped by more than 30% compared to the weeks before Mid-Autumn Festival, and product movement significantly slowed. One trader explained that the product quality of Australian oranges is not as good as in previous years. Moreover, consumer power has weakened, so the sales figures are far worse than traders expected.

A trader in Australian tangerines said that product movement has been regular. The value of Australian tangerines is rather high, but they compete with other import tangerines and domestic tangerines in the Chinese market. The sales conditions for South African oranges are comparatively speaking the most stable. The price of South African oranges did not fluctuate during the weeks around Mid-Autumn Festival and current product movement is smooth. Cambria oranges are still the most expensive oranges with a stable sales volume.

As for cherries, the Chinese market for import cherries is currently dominated by Canadian cherries. However, their delivery volume is limited and the season ends in a month. One trader said that the sales volume slightly expanded compared to previous weeks because of National Day, but the price is still not as high as in the weeks leading up to Mid-Autumn Festival. For some brands the price before Mid-Autumn Festival was twice as high as it is now.

Xinjiang plums

The season of Xinjiang plums is almost over. The prices of Xinjiang plums are very different depending on product quality and who is selling them. However, the general trend is one of price decline. One trader said that top-quality plums still move quickly, but the peak period of the season is over.

Vietnamese yellow dragon fruit

New arrivals on the market include Xinjiang Dinosaur Egg plums and Vietnamese yellow dragon fruit.
