MIPCitrus is being developed by ASOEX's Citrus Committee, INIA, and Corfo

New Chilean app for the citrus sector

ASOEX's Citrus Committee, together with INIA La Cruz, and Corfo, developed an open access application, called MIPCitrus, as part of the "Strategy for the management of quarantine mites in citrus with biological and conventional control (19CVC118653)" research project.

As reported by the Committee in its latest Eureka! magazine, “MiPCitrus is a digital technical support tool, which consolidates and makes information available to producers, exporters, advisors, students, and the academia for the management of citrus orchards. In its first stage, MIPCitrus focuses on integrated pest management and includes information on recognition, biology, damage, and management of the main citrus pests."

"Currently, information is available on the Chilean false red mite (Brevipalpus Chilensis), the peacock mite (Tuckerella Elegans), the broad-nosed weevil (Naupactus Xanthographus), the Fuller rose weevil (Naupactus Godmanni) and pseudococci. Likewise, MIPCitrus has an application volume calculator (VDA) that helps producers know how much fertilizers they should apply to their crops taking into account the characteristics of the orchard, the target pest, the mixing dose factor, and control alternatives available."

"In a second stage, the application will have information regarding the management of environmental conditions within the anti-pollination meshes and the probability of occurrence of seeds between citrus species, according to the results obtained in the project: "Integrated information system to improve the competitiveness of the citrus industry through the use of anti-pollination mesh in mandarins (18BPE-93873)", a project developed by the Citrus Committee and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile with the support of CORFO. MIPCitrus is available for Android and will soon be available for IOS."
