US: BJ’s Wholesale Club announces opening date for its first Indiana location
BJ's Wholesale Club, a leading operator of membership warehouse clubs in the Eastern United States, announced that its newest club in Noblesville, Indiana will open on Friday, September 30, 2022. The opening will bring the retailer’s total number of U.S. locations to 231 and the first club location for BJ’s in Indiana. The new club is located at 13210 Tegler Drive, Noblesville, IN 46060. US: Schnucks to acquire Missouri grocer Fricks Market
Schnuck Markets plans to buy independent grocer Fricks Market and transition one of its two Missouri stores to the recently launched Schnucks Fresh format. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. St. Louis-based Schnucks said that it announced its intent to acquire Fricks Market’s two stores, owned by Jennifer and Darren Newbanks, at 401 Central Avenue in Union and at 45 North Clark Street in Sullivan, Missouri.

Lidl to target smaller towns under plans for 25 new stores in Northern Ireland
German supermarket chain Lidl is targeting 25 new locations in Northern Ireland as part of its long-term goal of reaching 66 stores here. The retailer, which has opened 41 stores in the north since 1999, is altering its location strategy, which will eventually see it open in towns with smaller populations. Lidl’s location expansion will be run alongside its ongoing store replacement programme, which has already seen 18 of its northern stores modernised.

India: BigBasket looks to raise $200mln at up to $3.5bln valuation
Online grocer BigBasket has begun the process for a new round of funding that is likely to value the Tata Digital-owned firm at around $3-3.5bln, said three people briefed on the matter. BigBasket's latest financing is likely to come from Tata Digital and existing shareholders. While the size of the round hasn’t been finalised, it’s likely to be in the range of $200mln or more, the people said.

Central Retail announced the launch of its membership store Tops CLUB, which will offer imported products from exclusive brands worldwide. The store, spanning 15,000 square metres, is located behind Central Rama II. “We are introducing a mega project called Tops CLUB for the first time in Southeast Asia.
