A reference in the Brazilian market for minimally processed fruits and vegetables, the company De Marchi has sought to further increase the quality of its products in recent years and has recently acquired the TOMRA 5B sorting machine from TOMRA Food. Expectations are quite high regarding the results that can be achieved with this
Grupo De Marchi operates from the large-scale cultivation of fruits and vegetables, to the production of a wide range of frozen foods and the marketing of “in natura” foods to Brazil and abroad. With an increasingly demanding market and guided by more conscious production and consumption, the company seeks to take a step forward to meet market demands, with products that have higher quality, are healthier and above all more sustainable.
The hortifruti market in Brazil has been growing a lot and is now a very important part of the economy. In short, agribusiness and agriculture represent a percentage greater than 23% of the gross domestic product. Although it is not yet rooted in the diet of the Brazilian population, the truth is that the universe of fruits and vegetables has been growing a lot, boosted by natural and organic foods, which have been gaining consumer preference due to their health benefits.
For João Medeiros, commercial manager of TOMRA Food Brazil and Argentina, “this partnership is key in such an important sector as hortifruti”. The responsible explains “that De Marchi is an innovative company, with a strong presence in the national and international market, without a doubt, a very important partnership for TOMRA in the segment of minimally processed fruits and vegetables. It is an honor to provide a high-tech optical food sorting solution to one of the largest companies in the field in Brazil”.
As always, TOMRA worked closely with its client when selecting and optimizing the most appropriate sorting and grading solution. João Medeiros said: “TOMRA’s solution was designed together with De Marchi, taking great care over the details because the customer's range of products is large and requires a complete solution which can add value to all products on the line. Being able to demonstrate the machine at TOMRA's test center in Santiago, Chile, was of great help when defining the project. Demonstrations showed the flexibility of the TOMRA 5B and the impressive results it delivers.
As already mentioned, the TOMRA sorting machine is expected to be installed soon and there is a feeling on both sides that this is the beginning of a long partnership. “We are sure that this was just the beginning of a great and lasting partnership, as De Marchi is constantly looking for innovations, whether in the industrial area or in the field.
