More than a decade ago, avocados, an exotic fruit, became popular in China. For a long time, almost all avocados in the Chinese market were supplied by Peru, Chile, and Mexico. The growing demand has prompted domestic growers to start trying to grow avocados. After a long-term planting research and development process, domestic avocados were gradually put into production, and the current annual output can reach 4,000 tons.
Menglian County, Yunnan Province is currently the main avocado growing area in China. It is expected that the first batch of avocados will be harvested at the end of September. Green Silver is the largest avocado company in Yunnan Province, with an avocado orchard covering an area of 65,000 mu. Chen Xiaoyan, the head of Green Silver Shanghai, said that the orchard is currently in the early production season, with an annual output of more than 3,000 tons. A bumper harvest is expected in 2025, by which time the total production is expected to reach 60,000-80,000 tons, exceeding the total amount of imported avocados.
It marks the second year that Green Silver has supplied avocados to the market. Although overlapping greatly with the production season of Chile, the main source of avocados at present, the green silver avocado has a great advantage due to its freshness, high quality, and cost-effectiveness. "It may take no more than 72 hours from the tree to the hands of consumers. In addition, our avocados are sold in three grades, and the weight of large fruit can reach more than 250g, which is currently unreachable by imported avocados", Chen Xiaoyan said.
In order to maintain its dominant position in domestic avocados, Green Silver is currently making efforts to build the brand, Green Silver Manor. "Products that can meet our quality standards and dry matter content will be packaged under the brand of Green Silver. I hope consumers will think of Green Silver Manor first when they buy domestic avocados."
Due to the current limited production, the first batch of Green Silver avocados will be sold on Fresh Hema, JD.com, Dingdong, and Douyin e-commerce platforms. Green Silver is also stepping up efforts to develop channels and plans to establish its own ripening system to prepare for the next harvest.
