2022 melon harvest should generate R$ 1.1 billion in exports for Rio Grande do Norte

The municipality of Mossoró started another melon harvest. With an estimated production of around 400,000 tons destined for export, the sector should generate R$ 1.1 billion in the Potiguar economy. The data are from the Rio Grande do Norte Fruit Growing Executive Committee (COEX) and correspond to the period between last August and February of the next year.

The II Start of the Harvest of Melão is carried out through a partnership between the Municipality of Mossoró, Sebrae in Rio Grande do Norte, the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Árido (Ufersa) and Coex. For the Technical Director of Sebrae-RN, João Hélio Cavalcanti Júnior, the event has a decisive role in generating visibility for the activity, considered strategic for Rio Grande do Norte. Melon currently represents the second item on the list of exports from Rio Grande do Norte, with 63,000 tons shipped to other countries in the first half of the year.
