Combimetal Carrera, a company located in southern Italy specializing in the processing and manufacturing of steel structures, has recently installed a two-hectare soilless strawberry crop in Sardinia.
Operations will continue until early October in other regions such as Basilicata, Calabria, and Apulia in companies that decided to invest in these new innovative strawberry production systems.
"The one and two-row soilless system was set up in one well-known company in the Oristano province. We set up over 8 thousand meters of eaves in 5 days thanks to our new transporter machine capable of profiling directly in the fields up to the entire length of the greenhouse (40 meters)," explained Rocco Carrera, production manager of the company located in Policoro.

"Steel rods with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness from 2.2 meters have been used to support the adjustable eaves, paired with 5 mm hot-galvanized brackets and fixing base plates, essential to avoid the rods from sinking into the ground under the weight of the eaves."
The ideal moment for these installations is between July and September, so between the end of the old season and the start of the new one. "We will be busy in southern Italy until mid-October. We are currently working in Metaponto to set up new systems for a company located in Scanzano Jonico, then we will move to Consenza and afterwards to Lecce, where we will set up a 3-row soilless strawberry crop."
