Vegetable prices to soar driven by skyrocketing UK energy costs

The price of vegetables is set to skyrocket in the UK as the cost of living crisis is worsening. Some goods are even doubling in price, with everyday items becoming less affordable for Brits. Cucumbers, now around 60p, could soar above £1 next year as energy prices continue to rise for vegetable growers.

Tesco chairman John Allan, has warned that huge price increases could lead to more thefts by 'desperate people' unable to afford food: “I think shoplifting is a concern, and getting the police to take action and respond to cases... this is a concern right across the retail trade. I don't sympathize with people who shoplift, but I can understand desperate people taking desperate measures - sometimes when they've literally got no money left.”
