Strawberries led Andalusia's fruit and vegetable exports in the first half of the year

In the first half of 2022, Andalusia's fruit and vegetable exports amounted to a record 4,424 million euros, the highest value achieved in a semester since there are records (1995), thanks to an 11.6% increase over the same period of 2021, when the region had also achieved record exports despite the crisis derived from the impact of COVID-19.

Thus, the community reinforced its leadership in fruit and vegetable exports in Spain, accounting for two out of every four euros (46%) made by Spanish exports, which reached 9,699 million euros, well ahead of the Valencian Community (23.1%) and the Region of Murcia (17.5%), according to data from Extenda.

It should be noted that Almeria accounted for 51% of all Andalusian exports between January and June 2022, with a record 2,239 million euros, accounting for 23.1% of the national total.

By product, strawberries led sales in the first half of 2022 with 578 million, i.e., 13.1% of the total and a 10.1% increase over the same period of the previous year. They were followed by sweet peppers, with 574 million (13%) and an 11.2% increase in sales, and tomatoes, with 527 million (11.9%) and a 29.6% increase.

Cucumbers ranked fourth with 404 million, 9.1% of the total, and a 44% increase. Raspberries ranked fifth with 305 million (6.9%) and a 14.9% increase. They were followed by courgettes, with 251 million (5.7%) and a 24.6% increase, and avocados, with 215 million (4.9%) and a slight 1.2% decrease.

Next came watermelons, with 172 million (3.9%) and a 6.8% increase; blueberries, with 169 million (3.8%) and a 7.4% increase; and lettuce, with 121 million (2.7%) and a 15.1% increase over the same period of the previous year.

Finally, among the first twenty products, it is worth mentioning the growth in banana sales, which increased by 131% and amounted to 1.7 million euros; and grape sales, which increased by 59% and totaled 3.8 million euros.
