Tropical Millenium, a leading producer, importer and exporter of avocados, mangoes and other subtropical and exotic fruits based in Malaga, Spain, has been acquired by the Chilean company Baika, a producer of avocados, citrus fruits, blueberries and nuts in Chile, Colombia and Peru, through its European subsidiary Baika Europa SL.
Javier Fernández, CEO of Tropical Millenium.
In addition to Chile, Baika has commercial platforms in Mexico, Colombia, the United States and Europe, and it supplies the main markets in North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. In recent years, tropical fruits have been experiencing a notable boom in terms of both consumption and production. Avocados are, by far, the product that has grown the most.
"With our acquisition, we will be able to strengthen our presence in Europe with the Spanish production," said the CEO of Tropical Millenium. "We will be able to guarantee the supply of fruit to our customers throughout the year, given the large production that Baika has in different Latin American countries. We will also become vertically integrated within the value chain," he said.
According to Javier Fernández, "this acquisition will not imply any changes in their customer-oriented commercial operations or in Tropical Millenium's supply policy."
