Telemong growers frustrated as storm uproots durian trees

Growers in Telemong, Pahang, are very frustrated after a freak storm destroyed dozens of their durian trees. The incident happened near Jalan Karak-Manchis in the evening of August 22. One of the orchard owners said more than 10 of his Musang King and black thorn durian trees tumbled to the ground due to strong winds. The trees were already flowering and that he was expecting to sell the fruits in three months.

“It is not easy to grow durian trees. Not only do we have to worry about floods and droughts, we now have to worry about storms,” he said, adding that other orchard owners nearby suffered heavy losses after the storm uprooted their trees as well.
