From 1 September, brothers Oscar and Victor van Turenhout - from the cold store and logistics centre of Kivits-Goes in Ridderkerk - will start OV Fruit. Although both brothers have worked for various companies in the fruit and vegetable trade in recent years, their own company is the fulfilment of a long-cherished wish. "It has been there right from the start. Our father used to work for Bram Kooij in the banana business and as little boys we used to go with him. I think the path was already paved then," says Oscar.
At the moment, the office space at Goes-Kivits is being fitted out so that the six-man OV Fruit team can officially start work on 1 September. The name OV Fruit was quickly chosen with a combination of both initials. "We will mainly focus on export and this name is easy for many customers to pronounce. We have built up quite a network over the years and are focusing on sales throughout Europe, from Norway to Greece," says Victor.

OV Fruit will focus on a wide fresh produce range. "If we see trade in oranges we will work with that, but we are not going to limit ourselves to a few products. In the summer, we will be selling a lot of Spanish stone fruit and import trade, and in the winter period we will be adding Spanish, Turkish and Moroccan vegetables. Also, a date supplier has already promised us full support," says Oscar.
They wants to distinguish themselves with short lines to customers and suppliers. "The aim is also to visit all customers and suppliers once a year. That is not even about trade, but it is about simple things that work. From 1 September, everyone is welcome for a cup of coffee at Selderijweg 90!"
