Queensland cherry season: it’s a roll of the dice

Heavy rain and low volume has been affecting Marlborough’s cherry season. According to Cherrybank Orchard owner Blair McLean, the season was a bit of a mixed bag so far. There were fewer flowers on the trees, so the crop was lighter. However, the fruit was big and in good condition.

McLean added that despite the season starting with a dry November, heavy rain of up to 40 millilitres last Monday had given the fruit an affected quality. He added that some varieties performed better in rain than others. In the lead-up to Christmas the cherries should be looking better. Bigger, plum-like varieties should be available.
