Russia: Prospects for development of potato and horticulture discussed

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Sergey Mitin, has held a round table on the topic "On measures to ensure the growth of production of domestic fruit and vegetable products to meet the needs of the domestic market."

R.V. Nekrasov, Director of the Department of Plant Growing, Mechanization, Chemicalization and Plant Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, made a keynote speech. He noted that 6,7 million tons of potatoes were harvested in the organized sector this year.

Harvesting figures for potatoes and vegetables are close to the 2020 food security Doctrine targets. There has been a positive trend of the dynamics of vegetable production in winter greenhouses. The Ministry of Agriculture planned to increase the harvest of potatoes and vegetable products by 2025 by an average of 15% compared to 2021.
