After its debut at Macfrut, the Italian consortium Dal Cuore Veneto presented the project La Patata dal Cuore Veneto QV at the castle of Bevilacqua (Verona) on 29 November 2021. "We have aimed all our efforts at a unique packaging and a very marked territorial localization, which is between Verona Padua and Vicenza. However, the heart of the project is based on the regenerative agriculture that we practice in our cultivation," said Piergiorgio Agostini, coordinator of the project.

Cultivation with a strong focus on organic matter and soil maintenance and improvement is possible, as pointed out by Carlo Nicoletto of the University of Padua. "Green manure is one of those practices that allow crops like these to be more respectful of the soil and the environment. The project La Patata dal Cuore Veneto goes in this direction in providing organic substance, fixing nitrogen, controlling pathogens and restoring structure to the soil."
The production area of these potatoes is between the provinces of Verona, Padua and Vicenza and involves more than 25 producers for about 500 invested hectares.
"This is an area where we find very ancient traces of the cultivation of this tuber, but especially where potatoes have been cultivated for over 60 years with the best agronomic techniques in the main farms, which have decided to do so in compliance with the Verified Quality specification, a regulation established by the Veneto Region for high quality production," explained Agostini.

The packaging is highly original and, as Agostini pointed out: "We had to make a virtue out of necessity. The pandemic stopped us in our efforts to market our products at points of sale, so we had to invent something new. The cardboard box that contains the potatoes helps maintain their quality during storage. And the paper bags are environmentally friendly."
"In the box you will not only find our best product, but also simple and clear information about its characteristics, its origin and the essential elements that the QV brand wants to guarantee. such as environmental protection, a greater guarantee to the consumer, health and well-being of plants and animals. In the box there are some recipes as well as a comic strip and a puzzle, so as to involve children as well."

"I'm glad to hear that the three pillars of sustainability - economic, environmental and social - have been discussed and put into practice in the project. The consumer wants to see where a product is produced and know how it is made. The first ones who have to believe in a product are not the consumers, but those who live in the area where it is grown and cultivated," said Angelo Peretti of Internetgourmet.it.

The consortium is made up of two cooperatives of producers: Terre del Gua' Alonte (Vicenza) and La Buona Terra di Roveredo di Gua' (Verona). There are two conservation and packaging centers: Baratella Commerciale and Agriveneto Montagnana. Bertrans Pressana and Sprea Agricoltura are also part of the project. The products are certified Global Gap, QV, Grasp, Inps Rete del lavoro agricolo di qualità, IFS.
