On August 4, Chile became the second country to be authorized to export fresh Hass avocados to the Australian market, after New Zealand.
According to data provided by the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), Chile has sent 148 tons of Hass avocados to Australia since September 1 (when Chile's 2020-2021 fruit export season began). Despite being a producer, Australia offers a marketing window for Chilean avocados because of its high per capita consumption of this fruit, which reaches 3.8 kilos per year.
Since September 1, Chile has exported a total of 25,967 tons of avocados to the world, 25,967 of which correspond to the Hass variety. Europe has been the main destination with 81.3% of all shipments. It is followed by Latin America with 9.7%, Asia with 5.7%, and the United States with 3.4%.
Exports are led by the Hass variety, followed by the Gem and Zutano varieties.
