Prices may increase if Russia readmits Chinese apple imports

A group of four Russian experts, accompanied by leaders of the General Administration of Customs, Qingdao Customs, and Yantai Customs, visited the packaging houses and apple growing centers of Qixia Defeng Food Co., Ltd., and Qixia Rensheng Fruit and Vegetable Co., Ltd from October 31 to November 1.

Since August 10, the export of many Chinese fruits has been subjected to a Russian ban. Russia said the main reason is that Chinese products have repeatedly violated quarantine requirements. Affected fresh fruits mainly include apples and stone fruits such as fresh peaches and apricots.

Russian officials said that harmful micro-organisms may cause harm to the country's agriculture, resulting in a 30-90% reduction in production, so the matter needed to be treated with caution. Russian authorities indicated that they hoped to conduct joint investigations with Chinese authorities on the production, storage, packaging, and location of agricultural products, and hoped to resume trade after the situation improves.

This year, the Chinese local apple market has experienced continuous sluggishness. The inspection fully approved of the advanced management model, cultivation, varieties, planting models, and pest control of the Chinese apple industry. Russian officials involved in the visit all expressed their willingness in providing active assistance for apples to be re-exported to Russia.
