First shipment of Peruvian Fairtrasa projects expected on December 27

"Organic Fairtrade mangos six months a year"

"There is a challenging mango season ahead of us," says José María Cubero of Faitrasa Holland. "The availability of organic mango from Peru is big. Especially at the start of the year. We made a tight plan with the sales department and already planned a considerable amount of offers to sell the large volume and still keep the price at a reasonable level. In this way we will still be able to give our growers a sustainable price," adds José.

According to Leon Hijweege, responsible for the sales to a large number of retailers, it is added value that the mangos are not only organic, but also Fairtrade and Bio Suisse certified. "And that's good news," he continues. "Because we start with West Africa right after Peru. Those mangos are also organic and Fairtrade certified. This means that with Fairtrasa Holland we can offer organic Fairtrade mango six months a year."

The mangos from Peru come from own Fairtrasa projects. "Our colleagues in Peru put a lot of time into guiding the growers according to our 3 Tier model. We divide the growers into groups. The growers in Tier 1 are the less developed growers that need a lot of attention in the area of cultivation guiding. These growers don't have an infrastructure. Fairtrasa forms a cooperation with a number of these growers and the strengths and knowledge are bundled. The growers in Tier 2 are as we call them 'semi-developed' growers. These growers are on the right path and often already have the opportunity to package their product in boxes on a small scale. The growers in Tier 3 are the independent growers, who already take care of their own export. The goal of Fairtrasa is to get all growers to this level. The mangos we receive from Peru are from independently developed growers who were in Tier 1 when we contacted them and now export independently. We can call our mission in Peru a success!"

Fairtrasa Holland expects the first mangos from Peru on 18th December in their warehouse in Poedijk.
