Argentina in peak season

Chile: Evaluations taking place in blueberry orchards

The blueberry season from Argentina is in full swing, while Chile is experiencing some delay in their start of the season. In week 42, Argentina exported a total of 1.903.611 kg. Numbers published by the Argentinean blueberry committee show this is slightly less than the 2.075.156 kg exporting in the same week last season. As Chile just started their season, only 141 tons were exported in week 42. Total export accumulated 274 tons up to week 42, which is 72% less than last year but only 15% less than the season of 2015/2016 according to the Chilean Blueberry Committee.

Argentina
The numbers of last year show that October and the beginning of November have been the best weeks in terms of total amount of blueberries exported. Especially weeks 41, 42 and 43 during which export exceeded the 200.000 tons. The total amount of export this year increased tremendously in from week 39 to 40 and continued increasing after that as you can see in the table above. After a difficult week in which less volumes were exported to the destinations United States, UK, Asia, and Canada. This is mostly recovered last week, except for Canada which again received less volume.

Chile
The Chilean Blueberry Committee published a crop report, in which it's mentioned that Chile still has cold weather and this is slowing the ripening of blueberries. Exports will slowly increase each week. Evaluations are done in the different producing regions to see how the situation is in the different orchards. With these results the committee expects to define the peak of shipments and the start of the period with bigger volumes. As you can see in the graph above, last year the volumes peaked from early November onwards.
