Mattia Brutti, technician at Ceradini Group, confirms that "quality was excellent. We only had a few problems in July due to the high temperatures, but then things went smoothly. In addition, thanks to the great temperature ranges in October, we have registered excellent yields, firm flesh and high sugar levels."
The Drosophila suzukii problem was tackled with an organic strategy. Basically the whole crop is surrounded by over three thousand traps one metre apart. Each trap contains a "secret recipe" molasses containing apple vinegar. Bottles are cleaned and refilled once a week.
"The rule against Drosophila and for good health in general is maximum cleanliness. We harvest waste as well and eliminate it afterwards. Crops must always be clean of residue to prevent the onset of diseases or insect proliferation. This way, treatments are kept to a minimum."
Prices have always been good except for a short period in August. The Italian produce is considered the best due to the certifications, controlled chain and professionalism that characterise all Ceradini Group brands.
