Prices and margins in the marketing of Mexican limes
During the month of November (2016), the monitoring of the prices of Mexican limes from Colima, namely in three selected cities (Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City), revealed the following figures:
Prices Paid to the Producer ($/kg)
The price paid to producers in the country during November was highest in Colima (4.10 $/kg) and lowest in the state of Guerrero (2.50 $/kg). [CONASIPROLIM].
Wholesale Prices ($/ kg)
The highest monthly average wholesale price was recorded at the Central de Abasto of Guadalajara: (11.67 $/kg); the lowest price at the Central de Abasto of Mexico City: (7.87 $/kg). [SNIIM].
Retail prices ($/kg)
The highest average monthly retail price was recorded in traditional and self-service stores located in the metropolitan area of Mexico City: (13.66 $/kg); the lowest price was observed in the city of Guadalajara: 13.27 $/kg. [INEGI]
Marketing margins (%)
The highest marketing margin was reached in the metropolitan area of Mexico City: (344%). The lowest in the city of Guadalajara: 280%.
The highest marketing margin (in pesos) was a difference of $ 10.58 $/kg observed between the price paid to the producers in the Apatzingán citrus area, Michoacan (3.08 $/kg) and the average monthly retail price in the metropolitan area of Mexico City: 13.66 $/kg.
The lowest margin recorded (9.78 $/kg) corresponded to the difference between the average monthly price paid to the producer in the citrus-growing area of Tecomán, Colima (3.49 $/kg) and the lowest retail price registered in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco: 13.27 $/kg.
