Organic Italian citrus on display at the Nordic Food Fair

Following the successful first edition of Bio Sun 2015, a foreign buyers’ event held in Sicily, “Arance a casa tua - (oranges home delivered), the e-commerce brand of the Solarino family is now in Sweden to participate to the Nordic Organic Food Fair in Malmömässan, going ahead with its race towards internationalization in the context of the BIO Sun 2016 edition.

Sales of organic food in recent years have continued to rise across the whole Nordic region, a sign of the growing consumers’ interest in quality and traceability of certified products; but also a sign of interest of many North European buyers and representatives of hotels, restaurants and cafés searching for the newest market tendencies.

In its own stand B29, representatives of “Bioagricola Fratelli Solarino” will introduce the visitors to the farm excellent production and quality of New Hall oranges, followed by the production of Lane Late oranges and Star Ruby grapefruits, the result of the loving care and passion for the farm productions.

The “Bioagricola Fratelli Solarino” is a family run holding, handed down from father to son for more than a century. Over time it changed the type of crop, moving from extensive cereal production to the current organic citrus production. Its strengths are the quality of the product and the specialization in the cultivation of blond pulp oranges, varieties Naveline, New Hall, Lane Late, all seedless, as well as lemons (femminello siracusano), mandarin oranges and red grapefruits (Star Ruby). The “Bioagricola Fratelli Solarino” properties are located in the south - east of Sicily in Val di Noto, between the cities of Rosolini and Noto, in the province of Siracusa. In the last years, to meet the challenge of increasingly competitive and demanding markets, the “Bioagricola” has rationalised and improved the farm management using the most modern agronomical and marketing techniques.

Monica Solarino, sales manager, proudly says that "We cultivate with much love of our land convinced that loving it means respect for the environment, biodiversity and safeguarding of the health of people using the fruit of the earth". All the “Bioagricola” productions are certified organic, which means that no pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers are used. Fruit are harvested by hand at full maturity, with sugar content not less than 13 Brix degrees; they are immediately transferred into the storeroom to be washed with clean water, brushed, cold dried, selected, calibrated and packed in boxes.

The “Bioagricola” citrus fruits are certified by CCPB (Consorzio per il Controllo dei Prodotti Biologici: www.ccpb.it), NOP for USA, BIO Nach EG-Öko-Verordnung, Bio Suisse, EUREPGAP, UNI EN 11020: 2002 and were allowed to bear the eco-label "Blue Wave" released by the Italian environmental association “Movimento Azzurro”.
