Is Convenience the new Organic?

"DFHV plans new committee for "Convenience" with Fruit & Veg"

Fresh, peeled fruit, cut vegetables or ready-to-eat salads - no more washing, no more cleaning, no more peeling or cutting. "The advantages of convenience are obvious," said Dr. Andreas Brügger, the managing director of the German Fruit Trade Assosciation (DFHV). "Everything that makes the consumption of healthy food easier for the customer is the trend. It is no wonder that this sector has grown strongly - similar to the organic sector." Brügger is convinced that this trend will continue. The development confirms that convenience opens up a wide field for creative and ambitious suppliers of fresh fruit and vegetables. At the same time, convenient food also raises complex food law issues that go beyond the normal fresh food sector.

The DFHV will therefore set up a "Convenience" committee to promote the exchange of economic, technical and legal information and to advise members on fundamental issues. "Additionally, we will integrate the topic of convenience into our political work."
