The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) has announced on its official website the name of 43 Moldovan companies which will now be allowed to export fruit and berries to the Russian market.
The Rosselkhoznadzor stated that it has made this decision following a monitoring visit of Russian experts in Chisinau, as well as the guarantees provided by the National Agency for Food Safety. Shipments of apples, pears, quinces, apricots, sweet and sour cherries and nectarines were resumed on 22 July 22 as a test.
It's the first bit of good news that Moldovan growers have received after the Rosselkhoznadzor temporarily suspended the import of vegetables and fruits last March due to alleged violations of phytosanitary certificates of Moldovan products entering Russia via Belarus.
Before the ban, about 93 percent of exports of apples, with a value estimated at US $ 43.7 million, and 80 percent plum shipments worth an estimated US $ 21.1 million were directed to the Russian Federation.
