China: Lettuce exported to Japan

Reporters went to the vegetable production and marketing cooperation of Zhoujia Village in Lünshunkou, Dalian. The villagers were busy yielding hazard free Chinese cabbage, packing it into a special carton and preparing it for transport to Japan.

According to the mayor of the village, Zhou Guanghu, the whole village has already exported more than 400 tons of Chinese cabbage to Japan. This was the first time Lüshun Chinese cabbage was exported to the dining table of foreigners.

Zhoujia is a famous vegetable-producing village in Lüshun. The village has an annual output of more than 20,000 tons of various vegetables. In recent years, in order to seize the vegetable market, the village set up a vegetable production and marketing cooperation to guide vegetable farmers to produce various vegetables according to the strict pollution standards. Furthermore to register the vegetables with the 'Luyuan' pollution free trade mark at the Chinese Industry and Commerce head office.

Zhou Guanghu told the reporter that the price of the cabbage is 0.3 Yuan per kilo; this is more than twice the current market price in Dalian. Besides, if the Japanese market is positive about these cabbages, Lüshun will export more vegetables to the Japanese market.
