Leek doing strikingly well
Guy Jennes, responsible for winter vegetables at BelOrta, sees that there isn't much interest in winter vegetables at the moment. "Everyone believes that for certain vegetables you need winter weather. Sprouts have bad prices, and many others are noticing the warmth. What is striking is that leek is doing quite well. This is the winter vegetable of choice, but this autumn the price stayed level. Surprisingly good compared to other years. A possible explanation is that the productions are more spread out. In colder weather the harvest is usually delayed due to difficult conditions on the field."
Lettuce and tomatoes instead?
Will people eat lettuce and tomatoes instead? Guy isn't sure. "Although, the prices for lettuce isn't bad. The tomato prices are mediocre at the moment, although the domestic demand has increased. What we do know is that people tend to make warm dishes such as soups and stews in cold weather."
