China: new kiwi online sales platform launched

Zhouzhi village in central China is known for its kiwi production. The kiwi harvest season starts in the middle of September.

In the surrounds of the village, kiwi plantations cover 27,000 hectares (140,000 mu). Total annual output reaches 460,000 tons, with an estimated value of 2.5 billion Yuan (€0.4 billion).

The Zhouzhi government has invested 5 million Yuan (€0.7 million) this year to support the local kiwi industry. The investment targets the launch of an online platform and e-business. The government plans to set up 30 internet shops. Currently, the kiwis are sold on Taobao, one of China's largest online fresh produce platforms. 34,400 transactions were completed so far in 2015, generating an income of 1.7 million Yuan.

In Zhouzhi alone, over 300 people are involved in online retail.
