£65 for a bag of cherries?

A man from Mossley Hill described his shock after being charged £65 for a bag of cherries.

Pete David, 51, said he was relieved that staff at Tesco in Allerton noticed the £2 a cherry blunder before he paid by debit card.

He said: “I only had about 15 items. I knew the cherries would come to about £3 because it said that on the banner above.

“The lady at the till asked me for my points card and said ‘That’ll be £90 please’.

“Then she laughed and said ‘Hang on, that’s not right. Let me go and get the manager’.

“She was brilliant. The manager came and apologised.

“There was a load of ladies crowded around the till because they’ve never seen anything like this before.

“It’s lucky she noticed because I was paying by debit card, so it would have been quite easy just to pay - especially if I’d been doing a big shop.”
