Potatoes week 49, 2015

Germany: Quiet potato trade

The German potato trade was rather quiet. The supply was sufficient for the market. And since the supply and the demand weren’t far apart the prices remained on the same level. This was at least the case for batches with a sufficient quality. Several products suffered increasingly from quality defects such as rot. They tried to quickly sell off these batches for lower prices, however they barely sold.

The price decreases should boost the trade in Berlin. But the customers seemed unimpressed and held back. The early availability of the varieties such as Annabelle and Spunta from the Mediterranean region gradually increased. The interest for these varieties was restricted.
