Vers Select supplies mega range of mini vegetables

"Chefs make colourful plates with mini rainbow carrots"

The holidays are approaching again, which means it's time for beautifully presented plates. For a nice presentation, many restaurants use mini vegetables. "These are used throughout the year, but when Christmas nears, they do even better," says Willeke Mourits of Vers Select. "Our range of mini vegetables is huge. We recently added coloured mini rainbow carrots, eliciting very enthusiastic responses from our customers. Chefs are able to present colourful plates this way."

Calm before the storm
Vers Select purchases the mini vegetables from importers, and they also regularly visit the Rungis wholesale market in Paris to select the latest products. The mini vegetable range includes mini beetroot, mini kale, mini mushrooms, mini courgettes, mini king bolete, mini bell pepper, mini leek, too much to list. Willeke: "At the moment, many restaurants are preparing for the Christmas menu. It's still very quiet this week, but that's the calm before the storm. Everyone wants to buy as fresh as possible, but we are already finding out what customers want to have by Christmas. We notice there's demand for the more luxury products, depending on the restaurant."

Mini beetroot doing well
"Of the minis, the beetroot is doing well, both red, yellow and chioggia. Chefs find minis very handy to use. Because of the size, the plate isn't immediately full. In addition to mini vegetables, the cresses are doing well too. And there is also good demand for the so-called 'forgotten vegetables'. It's hard to keep up with that demand." Vers Select enjoys coming up with new products time and again. "We visit Rungis every week, and keep closely in touch with our importers. As soon as there is something innovative in vegetables, we're happy. That way we can keep inspiring our restaurants and chefs, and help them purchase."
