Morocco one of EU’s biggest vegetable suppliers

According to figures from Eurostat, Morocco is one of the EU’s biggest non EU vegetable providers. Out of the 1.3 million tons of vegetables from outside of the EU in the 1st semester of 2015, 428,396 tons were from Morocco. However, it should be noted that EU vegetable imports from Morocco did decrease by 5% compared to the same period in 2014.

Moroccan tomato imports may have plummeted by 7% compared to 2014, but they represent 81% of non EU tomato imports, estimated at 281,452 tons. Although green bean imports have decreased by 2% compared to the 1st semester of 2014, the EU has imported 81,456 tons.

The decreases that have been recorded could be due to bad weather conditions, or Moroccan vegetables being rerouted to the Russian market.
