Taking responsibility pays. The successful sustainability policies of real,- a company part of the METRO GROUP scored high marks again. METRO GROUP has been listed as the best company in the commercial sector in the internationally renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index. METRO GROUP, from Düsseldorf, became Industry Leader in the category Food & Staples Retailing. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) registers the development of corporate sustainability of the world's leading companies.
And the METRO GROUP achieved, together with real,-, the highest rating in the categories in the European and world standards. The METRO GROUP improved its index with a total of six points to 77 points.
The greatest improvements can be achieved in social areas and in packaging and eco-efficiency. One of the main criteria for the successful ranking was the real,- guidelines in purchasing. real,- provides customers the possibility to buy sustainable products with its comprehensive range of environmentally friendly and socially responsible manufactured products.
Standard brand bananas switched to organic bananas
Since 12 October the banana range in the 300 hypermarkets have been changed to organic bananas. With the expansion of the organic range real,- commits further to a healthy and sustainable future. real,- reacts to the changed consumer behaviour of its customers. The demand for organic products is increasing. According to real,- it has the possibility with its large sales areas to present a high quality and large variety in the fruit and vegetable sector. For many people a healthy diet with organic products with clear origins plays an increasingly important role in their lives. Many real,- customers only buy certified organic bananas. Overall real,- offers more than 1000 organic articles, the largest part under the own brand name Bio. About 40 different organic fruit and vegetables are available the whole year round and during the season that can increase to 60 products.
