Spanish pepper supply to build slowly in Holland

The bell pepper prices are at a good level for the time of the year, although they fell hard today compared to earlier in the week. The price of red and orange peppers is around 1.95 Euro per kilo and yellow and green are being sold at 1.80 and 1.90 respectively. "We have had a lower supply in the last two weeks and there was good demand for Dutch peppers," explains Marco Bergman from Harvest House.

"Due to the climatic conditions of the last few months in Spain there has been little or no supply from there," continues the pepper trader. "In the coming weeks the Spanish supply will slowly pick up. This week this will not have much influence, but in the period thereafter it probably will."

According to Marco, "The Dutch supply remains low. The coming four weeks won't be anything special either. Hopefully the growers can get a good result with the last volumes. The last of the peppers are normally difficult price-wise due to the big Spanish supply and less demand for Dutch peppers."
