Strengthening US asparagus programme

CarbAmericas, the primary sourcing agent of fruits and vegetables for retail and food service, has expanded their asparagus programme to diversify and lengthen their season.

CarbAmericas will be at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit booth #5175 sampling their asparagus along with other products such as broccoli, mango and sugar snap peas.

In 1993, CarbAmericas became one of the first companies to import asparagus from Peru. Today, they are the leading supplier of asparagus from Peruvian growers. CarbAmericas has now expanded their programme by investing in a collection of Mexican farms in Irapuato and is establishing grower partnerships with Caborca. CarbAmericas now supplies harvests from Caborca (January through April), Irapuato (June through September) and Peru (March through December).

CarbAmericas exclusive brand of asparagus Cypress Creek continues to grow with the support of Mexican growers and packing facilities. Many of CarbAmericas grower-partners will attend Fresh Summit.

Danny Pollak, vice president of sales at CarbAmericas has said "Our retail partners can continue to expect consistent pricing and quality with all our products and especially our Mexican asparagus."

He says they are expecting a volume increase of 30% this year.
