China wants to introduce new Yulu pear to Europe

Italian trade show Macfrut, held at the end of September, also had a pavilion with various Chinese organizations. Qixian Yoahua Fruit Industry co. LTD specializes in cultivation and sales of Chinese pears. Owner Yan Wei Yao says they mainly export these products to South Asia. "We are still looking for European partners, because we also want to send our products to Europe," the trader says.

New pear, Yulu
Qixian Yoahua Fruit Industry Ltd was founded in July 2005, and imports and exports top fruit. The company has 18 storage capacities of 15,000 square metres in total. Quality control of the products takes place there as well. The main specialization is the trade in the Qixian pear. "We recently included a new pear in our product range, the Yulu. It's a cross between an apple and a pear. Lovely and sweet, with a crunch. The production of Yulu is still small at the moment, but the acreage has already been expanded, and volumes will increase in the coming years. Therefore, we also want to introduce this unique Yulu pear in Europe," Yan concludes.

Various pear varieties
Qixian Yoahua Fruit Industry is located in the Xi County province, in the east of China. "The climate there is perfect for growing apples and pears. The temperature difference between day and night is very big, bringing out the best flavour in the fruit. Qi County is world-renowned as the number one production region for pears. Various pear varieties have grown here for thousands of years. This region has around 10,000 hectares of pear orchards, and a production volume of around 150,000 tonnes per season."

Unique qualities
Guxian Town, home to the company, is a hilly area. The Qixian pears are produced there. "We're 1,200 metres above sea level here, and we have an average temperature of 9.9 degrees Celsius and 2,675 hours of sunshine per year. This gives the Qixian unique qualities, such as its bright colour, its tasty bite, sweet crunchy skin and many health benefits. The pear also has a long shelf and storage life." The Chinese Fruit Marketing Association nominated the Qixian pear as 'THE fruit of China'. The Qi County province was awarded titles like 'Chinese pear County' and 'Top ten County in the Chinese pear Industry' by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture.
