Armenia: Potatoes rise in price

Due to poor yield this year, the price of potatoes in Armenia in 2014-15 could rise up to 0.6 Euro per kilo, - said the head of the Agrarian Union of Armenia Grach Berberyan.

It is to be noted that the current price of potatoes in Armenia ranges from 0.3 to 0.5 Euro per 1 kg.

Bad yields in the Shirak region are caused by the problems with the irrigation system. This is due to inefficiency of reservoirs, and abuse of intended for agriculture water by hydroelectric power stations and fisheries, - announced Berberyan at a press conference on Friday.

Berberian also said that it is too early to sum up the total harvest of the year, but potato export this year is obvious to be lower than in 2013 (45000 MT).
